854. Price of rice
A view from the rest stop along the Inba Marsh bike path.
The photo right area is a water supply system for agriculture, 30-m high water supply tank and pump building.
There are totally 6 similar looking facilities around the marsh.
Each is a large facility and conspicuous here and there. But the existence of elaborate networks of water ducts underneath is not known very well.
Below is a material borrowed from the data of Kanto Regional Agricultural Administration Office. Red thick lines show that ducts.
The latest improvement works (2nd works) alone costed 55 billion yen.
Self-sufficiency of staple food can be achieved by the existence of these infrastructures nationwide.
People complain, rice is expensive. But it could be said, inexpensive, very much inexpensive, depending on how you look at the whole structure.
Data by Kanto Regional Agricultural Administration Office / National Irrigation Project "Inba Marsh 2nd area" (Inba Marsh 2nd Agriculture Irrigation Projict)
BTW, a strange look cabin of the photo at the right, resembling a tea caddy with legs, is a rather well known public toilet, among the curiosity seekers. Its wall at the back facing the road, once had a picture by Banksy. Of course, unknown authenticity, though.
Unfortunately the authorities erased it. But you can see it online, a walking monkey upright in human-adult-size with a hunting rifle in hand, and a baby monkey on the gunstock, by using keywords, for instance =Inba Marsh, Banksy=.

853. Ghosts appeared
Visited Kasima Shrine#1 for the first time in a while.
This shot, showing the path to the shrine buildings, is full of flares and ghosts.
- - Right,
this type of light condition requires a lens hood.
In film-camera days, I had been careful in that regard, though.
Today's digital cameras are so convenient that I tend to forget about even the physics-law basics.
This is to be simply "scrapped". But I dare expose it here for a lesson.
Kasima Shrine#1
The oldest shrine in Hitachi Province, located 110 km ENE of Tokyo, enshrining the deity for martial arts, who is said to have come there on the back of a sacred deer,
Today, Kasima is an industrial city centering on steel and power generation industries. Its soccer team, Kashima Antlers, is one of the original 10 soccer teams of J.League / JPN Pro. Football League.

852. Leaves won't leave
A leaf of kasiwa tree, a leftover of kasiwa moti#1.
Expecting a good veiw of the leaf veins, I sticked it to a window glass, like crucifying.
Yes, the shape certainly lure one to take it as a motif for various things. There are family crests called "circle with three kasiwa-leafs inside", "something three kasiwa-leaf". Families with Shinto priesthood are said to use them frequently.
The reason that, since old times, people here have regarded that tree be sacred, is said that the characteristics of the tree, dry leaves do not drop until next sprouts come out, is construed as no discontinuity of family lineage.
Trees with this trait look not so many. A kunugi at my place has the very same quality. It is now 3 or 4 years since its sprouting from an okame-donguri acorn which I picked up at a nearby roadside.
This barely 2m high lanky tree produces many branches with many large leaves as those of adult trees. Its dry leaves remain attached to the tree during the whole winter.
Because of that, the tree topples even with a slight wind. Sure enough it is flexible, but looks indeed awful. I feel like yelling, stop it already. It is hard to believe that it is the tree to get very tall. Trial to remove the leaves by hand makes me feel their surprisingly firm clinging to the branches. Thus it ends up to leave them as they are.
Well, again, this digressed to useless story.

851. Makuhari seashore
Three shots yesterday, Apr. 11 sat. before noon.
Center photo
This breakwater had long been off-limits. However a part of the security fence was cut out so that one can slip through. Probably the work of fishing enthusiasts. The responsible authorities looked not to react to the breach. Probably they left it on the basis of "do it at your own risk".
At present, the seawall got breast-high sturdy fences and is open to the public.
Left
To the east from the above place / a part of distant view
A flame is shooting up from a flare stack of a chemical plant. This is under normal operation.
Some misunderstand it as an accident and report to the authorities
Right
Opposite north side.
Two tall identical look buildings are seen.
For a few years before my retirement, I commuted to the office situated at the upper floor of the left building.
In winter, a large size Mt. Fuji with its gently sloping foot was clearly seen on top of the Tokyo skyline floating on the sea down below.

850.@Flowers everywhere
Finally the time, various plants and trees flower in unison, has come.
Seen in the center is an old wild cherry tree long cherished by the people of this area.
It has visibly got weaker these years.
